Oh how I love designing new things. I’m not the only one. I’ve made a few new things over this year, but it’s been a long time since I designed a whole series of things with a very specific purpose. My current collection samples were done around January of this year and I’m working on new scarves, bags, cushions and other things to add to the collections. Since February I’ve been teaching, promoting, producing and moving, but no real in-depth creating.
I’m also getting into making one-off pieces which is really exciting. Many of the ideas I come up with are just too time-consuming to ever really be repeatable product lines, but are wonderful to make on commission just once or twice.
Here are some of the things I am playing around with. Some have worked better than others, some will become product lines, some will stay forever in the studio (or my wardrobe). It’s hard when you spend hours trying to make the thing in your head materialise in fabric. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Hopefully there are more successes than failures! Sometimes you just need a second opinion. Usually, if I am in doubt, there is good reason, and the second opinion is ‘no’ too!
I loooove the white organza lampshade (if that is what it is?). It’s really pretty!
