My Big Idea

A few weeks ago, I blithely applied for an opportunity to win a free local shop unit and some start-up funding for new business ideas. I plan to open a craft workshop teaching space next year anyway, so I thought I might as well throw my hat into the ring and apply for this opportunity to kick start my big plans.
In brief, my proposal is:
My Big Idea is to get Leicester sewing and making. I want to run a create and make workshop where anyone can learn new practical and creative skills and be part of a crafty community. I want to share my experience as a professional textile designer-maker and author of two sewing books to inspire the people of Leicester to rediscover the pleasure of making things themselves. Sewing and making workshops are popping up all over the country — it is time the creative city of Leicester had one!
And I got through to the next stage – Dragon’s Den style pitch to a panel – with about 36 hours notice – in the middle of a MOUNTAIN of teaching work. eek. But I did it and got through to the last four – amazingly considering how tired I was!
In Leicester Mercury this morning!

It went in the local paper too.
And I had to make a terrible video (totally unprepared, waffly & embarrassing!)
The winner is to be chosen by public vote, so I need your help!
To vote you need to click on the video above to go to the YouTube page, then you need to log in to Google or YouTube (you can make an account pretty quickly with any email address) then to actually vote you click the LIKE button under the video. If it has worked you will get offered the option to share on Facebook & Twitter. If you don’t, it hasn’t worked.
Daft, over-complicated system, I know. But it really is worth it because I promise you, if I win, I will do something really fabulous & you are all invited!
