Criminal Herstories

Criminal Herstories is a display of research and interpretation generated through the Criminal Quilts project alongside some textile pieces made by Ruth Singer.

The research work is presented in the form of a large book for visitors to read and explore. This book is inspired by the large bound photo albums of prisoner photographs which form the basis of this project. This book includes images of original photographs and details about the women shown, features on clothing and hats, details about trials, prison sentences and personal lives.

Two pieces of textile artwork are also included in the display, one made by Ruth Singer and one made by the Stafford Library Craft Club during workshops alongside the showcase in Summer 2018. This is currently touring around Staffordshire libraries.

This display is available for loan to archives, libraries and community venues. It can also be displayed alongside the full Criminal Quilts exhibition.
