Journal pieces is my group title for work that is responding to daily life. Foodbank Stories is also related.
Gathering
After running a wonderful online community event called Making Meaning Gathering in 2022, I wanted to create a textile piece to reflect on the joyful experience. This is made from gathered hexagons of naturally-dyed silk telling a story of co-operation, connecting, gathering and diversity.

Container
During a retreat with Gillian McFarland, I collected plants to dye small scraps of fabric as well as found things on our research walks. These pieces together represent the week we spent in nature, learning, exploring and thinking, neatly contained.
Naturally-dyed fabrics, wool stuffing, found objects, vintage dish purchased together.

This is part of my two-year Cultures of Care project funded by Arts Council England 2023-2025.
Cultures of Care is an umbrella for several creative activities including residencies with community organisations, research projects in museums and new work on topics such as migration, destroyed communities and other hidden stories of care and damage of people, places and objects.

Making Meaning Journal is part of my Cultures of Care project. Issue 1 includes projects and artworks related to the care. Find out more here.
