Connected Threads programme is now complete. Those who took part are invited to the community launch. The finished skein will be included in the Mary Linwood; Art, Stitch & Life exhibition opening 13th September at Leicester Museum & Gallery.
About Connected Threads

Connected Threads is about making textiles together. We will run a series of workshops for groups and drop-in sessions for individuals to learn about cord making. Together, over a year, we will make a giant skein of thread which will be showcased in an exhibition about Mary Linwood in autumn 2025 at Leicester Museum & Art Gallery, New Walk.
The skein will be made from donated wool embroidery (tapestry) threads. At the workshops, we will join the threads into long lengths and then using a cord-making technique, combine them together. We hope to have hundreds of cords combining to make a giant skein of embroidery thread.
- Each thread symbolises women who did embroidery whose names are not remembered.
- By working together, we bring those women back together into a connected community of thread.
- Everyone who contributes will be recorded on a poster which will become the label or thread wrapper for the giant skein when it is displayed in Leicester Museum & Art Gallery.

A couple of Connected Threads events are supported by Leicester City Council Ward Funding. The rest of the project is funded by Arts Council England
