A celebration of embroidery and creativity inspired by the work of Mary Linwood

Over the weekend of 22nd & 23rd November, there will be a textile takeover of Leicester Guildhall, in celebration of Mary Linwood and of stitchers of today.

The event includes:
Embroidery to try – historic techniques and modern interpretations
Display of Mary Linwood’s materials and the chance to try her needle painting with wool technique
Study sessions each day of embroidery & dress from the time of Mary Linwood (from Ruth Singer’s personal collections)
Colourful cord-making (as seen in Connected Threads)
Talks and in-conversations with Ruth & experts Dr Heidi Strobel and Dr Isabella Rosner (the Mary Linwood Fanclub founders – see below)
Contemporary embroidery artist demonstrations and displays
Antique and vintage textiles, threads and books for sale

Timetable (roughly the same both days)
11-12.30 & 1-3 Demonstrations and embroidery to try – drop-in
11.30-12.15 Textile study sessions (limited numbers, sign up on arrival)
2-3 Talk / in-conversation with textile curators and experts
All day: sales and displays, space to meet other stitchers and sew together in the glorious surroundings of Leicester Guildhall
