Leicestershire Artist Opportunities

I’ve been working on a great project with Creative Leicestershire recently and we’ve just advertised five artist opportunities for Leicestershire artists. The idea is to create artist-led events in five market towns, each for a week, in empty shops or other similar venues. There’s also mentoring and professional development as part of the project so it’s all round excellent. The towns involved are Melton, Hinckley, Market Harborough, Loughborough and Coalville and we are looking for artists in, near or closely connected to those towns. The events are all taking place November – March so it’s quite soon! The full brief is below. There are two different deadlines because one of the projects is happening soon – so 10th October for that one (Melton) and 23rd October for the other ones.

Earlier this year I worked on the funding application for this project, working from an original concept by Creative Leicestershire. It was my first Arts Council application written for an organisation so I am really pleased to have got it right and that we have been awarded the funding. I am working on the project too, as the professional development co-ordinator which involves running a series of training sessions for the commissioned artists over the whole programme. I’m also working on the evaluation of the project so gathering information to find out how much it meets its goals of supporting artists and bringing creativity into town centres. I’m really excited about being part of this project and looking forward to meeting the selected artists.
