A gentle, supported reflection on the past year and a guide to finding your focus for the new year

Find Your Focus is my annual course, running again in January. I developed the first version, Gentle Goal Setting in late 2020 and ran in for a couple of years, supporting dozens of creatives to be gentle with themselves and work out what they really wanted to do, not what they felt they ought to do. In 2023 I revised and expanded this course to include five weekly workbooks exploring the past year and creating plans and direction for the coming year. It’s still gentle, it’s still about goals, but it’s not about setting unrealistic or income-generating goals that make you feel like you have failed before it’s even Spring.

Find Your Focus is holistic and allows you to explore your creative practice through a mindful lens and better understand your own needs and wants in your creative life. I developed the questions and exercises through my years of mentoring artists and finding my own way to reflect and plan that works for creative souls. I shared Gentle Goal Setting with dozens of people in the first couple of years and took all the learning from that to make Find Your Focus truly transformative course.

There are some testimonials below and you can also read my posts about the course from previous years to get more background on what it’s about. There are links at the end of this page.

The course starts on 2nd January and runs for 5 weeks. It is a self-study course with captioned videos and workbooks every week. There’s also a transcript of the video if you prefer to read rather than watch.

You can also start later and the resources will be delivered to your email every week.

Find Your Focus is £49

I would definitely recommend Find Your Focus. I ended 2022 feeling that my art practice was ‘all over the place’. Over a period of five weeks Ruth gently led me through a process of reviewing and unpacking the year. Her poignant questions encouraged me to think deeply about how I felt about aspects of my practice and enabled me to recognise what is important to me, make some changes and set myself some gentle goal. I have gone into 2023 feeling a lot more positive.

This course helped me figure out my brain a little more. it wasn’t about setting targets (something the ‘project management – types’ are inclined to default to but it was about setting paths and guidance that were reflective of your needs.

Ruth’s prompts and videos really helped me dive deep into the meaning behind why I do what I do (in art, in my career, and in my personal life), and use that understanding as a driver toward my future goals and plans. Unlike a lot of goal setting systems, she encourages folks to distill down to what’s important to them, rather than building up a lengthy task list.

I found this course incredibly useful. Not easy to express your feelings into words but I now have my ‘goals’ for the year. Thanks Ruth

Find Your Focus for 2025

What I’ve learned in 2023
