  • Daily Make (10)

The last few weeks have had a lot of the petal-making for Interlace. We’re now into the final days before the exhibition so mounting and finishing is the order of the day. I’m lucky to have had two work experience students working with me in March, who have been invaluable in the exhibition preparations. The students…

  • Postcards from San Francisco – Birds

Sitting, quietly, this Sunday morning, watching new-visitor long tailed tits in my garden, has reminded me of the surprise delight of bird watching in San Francisco. We’d been there less than 24 hours before the purchase of a bird guide became essential. The sea shore is awash with birds, as are the many parks and…

  • Daily Make (8 & 9)

    Daily Make (8 & 9)

Owing to a foul illness over the last week or so, recent daily makes have just been knitting and more knitting. Both the scarf and the illness are done now, I’m pleased to say. These #dailymake2015s also overlap with an artist in residence day so proper making has taken place too.        …

  • Themed school workshops

    Themed school workshops

I love collaboration; I find it exciting and engaging both creatively and practically. Sharing skills, knowledge and expertise is vital to creating a good outcome and I always find it pushes my own creative boundaries and helps me work better and learn all the time. Whether it is working with schools, community groups or other makers, I…

    Narrative Threads residency day 1

A few days ago I finally had my first Narrative Threads residency day at The National Centre for Craft & Design after January’s went awry with snow and illness. It is such a rare treat to spend a whole day focussed on just one project and a day just making my own work is still…

  • Daily Make (7)

    Daily Make (7)

I’ve recently been having a great time experimenting with screen printing, which I’ve not done since school! I’ve been printing on fabrics to make into more petals for Interlace, my collaboration with Bethany Walker. Our exhibition opens in less than 4 weeks time so there is lots to do…. Along with grey petals, I’m also…

The exhibition opens on Thurs 26th Feb with an evening preview from 6.15pm and continues until 28th March.

  • Daily Make (5 & 6)

    Daily Make (5 & 6)

My excuse for missing an entire week of #dailymake2015 was my birthday last weekend. I made a dress for my birthday party and did a lot of work on petals for Interlace as our exhibition deadline looms ever closer! I’ve also got back into knitting which is a joy. Some of the last couple of week’s…

  • Textile Memories

    Textile Memories

My forthcoming exhibition Narrative Threads explores physical and emotional engagement with cloth, exploring tactility, memory and personal stories, mostly around old domestic textiles. I’m interested in looking at how we feel about old fabrics; tablecloths with stains and dusters with holes and how the role of the artist changes a piece of fabric from something ordinary to…
