A new project exploring the emotional connections between touch & stitching
Supported by Arts Council England

Over the next two years I am working on a research and exhibition project exploring the emotional connections between touch and stitch. This project is intertwined with The Victorian Hand but allows me to do more, work with others and get the support I need to make this work. This additional funding will allow me to collaborate with other artists, run co-creation activities, create more artwork and produce a publication of my work.
My artwork will respond to the workshops and research to illuminate tactility, hand sewing and how ageing, changing health or disability impacts our sense of touch and tactile engagement with the world. I’m interested in how our modern sense of touch and material literacy is different to Victorians’.
There will be workshops in Loughborough in late 2026 and 2027, exhibitions in 2027, participatory projects and a publication. There will be artist collaborations and I am delighted to be working with Hannah Moreton as the project associate artist.

This project will also include a new development of Stitching Emotions.
