Places & Traces of Charnwood Forest

Places & Traces is a creative landscape history project looking at how local people experience and feel about the Charnwood Forest area.

Over the next year I’m hosting creative exploratory walks and wild workshops where we will explore what makes this area so special to us personally. I’m collecting community stories and experiences of this landscape to create a handmade map and booklet.

Over the summer we will gather for walks and creative play outside in the landscape and move inside over the winter to look at maps and documents. We will collect your experiences of this landscape and jointly create a map of emotions and experiences, beloved places, traces of lost landscapes and histories of humans in this place.

If you are local to Charnwood Forest (Leicestershire) or visit regularly, you can take part in the project either by joining events or by doing your own research walks and sharing your thoughts with me. Sessions take place on Friday mornings, once a month. Join any time and come whenever you can. This is designed for adults and participation is free, thanks to our funders.

You can also join just for the winter events where we will be making a handmade map of your emotional landscape histories. This is perfect for anyone crafty but no experience is necessary to take part.

There will be a small exhibition in spring 2025 where we will share our handmade map and a booklet of written stories too.
