For the first time, Making Meaning has been recorded outdoors! I met up with Kate Unwin of The Moon and the Furrow at her woodland in Wales. Kate is an artist, maker, grower and one of my closest friends. She moved to Wales to live a more sustainable and nature-connected life and she runs a small business that is very much aligned with her values and creative inspirations. We talk about nature, creativity and healing, about making conscious choices with a business, about living simply and about sharing wonderful things with other people.
Kate created The Moon and the Furrow in 2020, creating illustrations inspired by nature, folklore, the seasons, witchcraft, history, literature, plant medicine, food and the phases of the moon. Sustainability is at the heart of what she does, encouraging people to swap disposable tissues for washable, reusable organic cotton handkerchiefs and creating work that is useful and functional. The work is a celebration of this beautiful planet, the hope being that the more connected we are to the natural world around us, the more we will try and save it. In 2022 Kate moved to Wales to be closer to the ancient woodland she stewards with her partner, Eric, where they are building an off-grid smallholding and a life lived in harmony with the earth.
