Making Meaning Podcast Episode 39 Artist Support Recipes

In this last conversation of series three, I’ve brought together five members of a group called Artist Support Recipes.

A couple of years ago I brought together a group of artists to explore thoughts and ideas about artist support and development. We had some funding to meet for a year and put together some resources and reflections on artist support. I brought the group back together late last year to discuss this all and to share it in a podcast. The group members are Gillian McFarland, Sharon Adams, Liz Nilsson, me and Collette Rayner (who was not able to join in live for the recording so her contributions are pre-recorded). The group we set up ended up being called Artist Support Recipes after we kept using food and cooking metaphors for artist support. It was really fun to use this idea in all our work and we created fun things like using a bagel recipe as a templates to think about artist support and a resource called “an artwork as a recipe” as different ways of thinking about our developmental needs. You can find some of these on our website artistsupportrecipies.wordpress.com – many thanks to Sharon Adams for creating the website.

We are an international group of artists involved in artist support and development. During 2022 we are collaborating on a research project supported by Creative Scotland’s Four Nations grant (funded by Arts Councils for England, Wales and Northern Ireland and Creative Scotland).
