Behind the scenes for the last couple of years, I’ve been trying to make an exciting project happen. I’ve wanted to share the story of embroiderer Mary Linwood for even longer than that. I’m finally making it happen.
Over the next year I am putting together an exhibition of Mary Linwood’s embroidery from Leicester Museums and creating a new body of work of my own in response to Mary’s life and work.
Mary Linwood was a celebrity embroidery artist in the early 1800s but not many people have heard of her now. This project celebrates her life and work with community projects and an exhibition. The exhibition will include many rarely-seen Mary Linwood embroideries and new textile artworks by Ruth Singer, reflecting on Linwood’s life and legacy.
